Girls XC: Lancaster-Lebanon League Team and Individual Rankings (through 9/11/2018)

We are two weeks through the 2018 Lancaster Lebanon League season. Well, a week and a half through. Roughly half of the teams within the league will be making up their week 1 dates on 9/18 due to the extreme heat that swept across central PA on 9/4.

About the rankings – individual runners race times from league meets and from invitationals were entered into our database. Some runners have only posted 1 time to date while others have posted as many as 3. We averaged each individual’s 5k times so far this season in hopes of minimizing the variance between different courses. We will update these rankings each week as more races are run, thus further reducing the impact on times due to course variation.

Here are the initial Team Rankings based on how the league meet would be scored if the top 7 runners from each team were to run their current average 5k time in a head to head competition:

The Manheim Township girls sit atop of the team rankings through the first two weeks of the season. Same as it was for the boys team race, this too looks as though it will be a very close race in October. Hempfield is coming off of a league meet victory over Manheim Township on September 11th and will challenge Township for the top spot in the rankings over the course of the next few weeks. With the 3 fastest individual times in the league, Elizabethtown figures to be in contention for a championship as well. If Manheim Township, Hempfield, and Elizabethtown’s top 5 runners stay healthy, then they are the top contenders to win the team title. Township and Hempfield will rely on team depth, while E’town will count on the low point scoring of their top 3 athletes. Warwick, Manheim Central, Conestoga Valley, and Ephrata are currently very closely matched in the team race for the 4th position. A lot can change over the next several weeks and we look forward to updating these rankings on a weekly basis up until the league championship.

Here are the initial Individual Rankings based on runners average 5k times for the season to date:

The Elizabethtown trio of Madeline Quinn (soph), Cat Shontz (sr), and Katie Locker (jr) is one of the best 1-2-3 combinations in the state of Pennsylvania. They are the only girls in the league to be averaging sub-20 minutes for their 5ks so far this year. Cedar Crest soph Gwyneth Young appears ready to join them and is the only other runner this year to date that has run a 5k in under 20 minutes.
