October 20, 2018
Camp Hill narrowly won the district title in 2017, defeating York Catholic for the title 65-67. It shouldn’t be so close in 2018. The team from Camp Hill should be heavy favorites to win again this year. Without a senior in their top 7, they could be around the top for a few more years. Junior Laura Sakol leads the Lions with her 20:05 time from the Ben Bloser Invite (Big Spring) earlier this season. She finished 18th overall a year ago, but should be one of the favorites to win the individual title in 2018. If anyone is going to give Camp Hill a challenge it could be Delone Catholic or the upstart Little Dutchmen from Annville-Cleona. Annville-Cleona has gotten better throughout the season and could surprise come next weekend. York Catholic and Kutztown should round out the top 5.
District III A Champion – Camp Hill
District III A Runner-up – Delone Catholic
3rd – Annville-Cleona
4th – York Catholic
5th – Kutztown
The top four finishers from a year ago all graduated. High Point Baptist senior Anna Steich is the top returner from last season and has run the fastest 5k amongst returners this year when she ran 19:58 at the Lehigh University Paul Short Run. She will have good competition from Camp Hill’s Sakol. Sakol defeated Steich at the Gettysburg Invitational a couple of weeks back. Kutztown’ s Erika Moriarty (soph) has been improving all season and ran a PR of 20:47 at this past weeks BCIAA Championship at Kutztown University’s Farm Course. The top 5 individuals not on the state qualifying team will advance to the state championship in Hershey.
