The 2018/19 Indoor Track and Field season in Pennsylvania will conclude with the PTFCA Indoor State Championships on February 24th at Penn State University. For many athletes on our Central PA Top 10 list, this will be their first time this season racing on a banked track. Expect season bests and personal records to fall as the fast track and competitive environment make this one of the best meets in the country.
The CD East boys have dominated the sprint scene this winter. Shawn Brown and Stephon Brown are currently ranked PA#1 and PA#3 in the 60m dash; Emmanuel Niang is ranked PA#2 in the 60mH; and their 4x200m is PA#1 and US#7. Lampeter Strasburg’s Ezra Mellinger (Duke University Commit) and Chambersburg’s Tyeshawn Worrell both factor into the 60m dash state medal race later this month. In the long sprints, Red Lion’s Jerome Jessup figures to be the areas best bet to capture a top 8 finish in the 200m and 400m where he ranks PA#11 and PA#7 respectively.
Ephrata’s Tyler Shue is coming off his best race of the year at the PTFCA Carnival when he ran a PA#3 1:55.97 for 800m. He also has a PA#2 for 1600m with a 4:19.25 from earlier in the season. Mifflin County’s Chayce Macknair (Shippensburg Univ Commit) also figures to contend for a state medal as he holds the PA#5 spot over 1600m with his 4:21.88.
Manheim Township’s Ian Miller (High Point Univ Commit) is currently ranked PA#2 in the 3000m and is coming off his all time best 3000m in winning the PTFCA Carnival in 8:50.06. Mifflin County’s Brayden Harris will challenge Miller for the area’s top spot at 3k and has a season best/personal best 8:51.73 which places him PA#3 over this distance. Both will battle North Allegheny’s Zach Kinne (Duke Univ Commit) who holds the PA#1 ranking with a 8:41.22 run this past weekend.
Central Pennsylvania holds three PA#1 spots in the field events. Juan Mato-Segura (Reading; Rider University Commit) is ranked #1 in the High Jump with a leap of 6-8. Ezra Mellinger is ranked #1 in the Long Jump with a distance of 23-11.5. Lance Hamilton (State College; Penn State Univ Commit) is ranked #1 in the Triple Jump with a distance of 47-11.75.
