The Week that was (April 22nd-28th)

CPAR Honor Roll

The Penn Relays, Cy Fritz Invitational, The Lebanon County Championships, Northern Bedford Invitational, and the LHU HS Classic were the big meets area athletes competed in this week. Here is a look at those who stood out:

Sprints

Boys

Performer of the week – CD East 4x100m and 4x400m relays

What would Penn Relays week be without naming at least one of the relay squads performer’s of the week. The CD East squad advanced to the Championship of America at the Penn Relays in the 4x100m, further solidifying themselves as the team to beat in Pennsylvania this year. They also would run a PA#4 3:22.02 4x400m.

Honorable Mention – Harrisburg 4x100m relay

The Harrisburg boys advanced to the Northeast Championship final at the Penn Relays and won. The ran a new season best and PA#3 ranked 42.02.

Girls

Performer of the week – Warwick 4×100 and 4x400m relays; Leah Graybill (Warwick)

The Warwick girls were on fire at the Penn Relays, running a PA#1 47.25 in the 4x100m relay and a PA#4 time in the 4×400 with their 3:55.73.

Leah Graybill would then come back late Friday night and run a blazing PA#4 time of 24.63 in the 200m at the Cy Fritz Invitational.

Honorable Mention – Conestoga Valley 4x400m relay, Meghan Quinn (Warwick), Isabella Culver (Penns Valley)

The Conestoga Valley 4×400 won their heat at the Penn Relays and established a PA#6 time of 3:55.88.

Meghan Quinn joined her teammate Leah Graybill in running the 200m at Cy Fritz late Friday night and ran a PA#7 time of 25.02.

Isabella Culver of Penns Valley won the 400m at the LHU HS Classic taking the victory in a PA#12 time of 58.15. She is the #1 ranked 200m/400m runner in PIAA AA District 6.

Hurdles

Boys

Performers of the week – Alex Miller (Cedar Crest), Dejon Manning (JP McCaskey), Zachary DeCarmine (State College)

Too close to separate these three this week. Miller won the 110mH at the Lebanon County Championship’s in a PA#15 15.02. Manning won the 300mH at the Cy Fritz Invitational in a time of 39.76. DeCarmine placed 10th at the Penn Relays in the 400mH with a time of 54.81.

Girls

Performer of the week – DeAsia Holloman (Cedar Crest)

Holloman won the Lebanon County Championships in a meet record time of 15.07. That time currently ranks her PA#13.

Honorable Mention – Clare Marsh (Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy)

Marsh won the 300mH at the LHU HS Classic in a PB time of 46.97. The time ranks her PA#25. She is ranked 5th in the state amongst AA teams.

Middle Distance/Distance

Boys

Performer of the week – Colton Sands (Penns Valley)

Colton Sands won both the 1600m and 3200m at the LHU HS Classic. His winning time in the 1600m was 4:25.57 and his winning time in the 3200m was 9:26.28. The 3200m time was a PB and currently ranks him PA#5 (Ranked #1 in AA).

Girls

Performer of the week – Marlee Starliper (Northern)

Marlee Starliper finished 2nd in the Penn Relays mile with a time of 4:42.30 which converts to a 4:40.66 1600m and that is a PA#1 and US#2.

Honorable Mention – Taryn Parks (Greencastle-Antrim), Kileigh Kane (State College), Gwyneth Young (Cedar Crest), Kate Dickow (Warwick)

Taryn Parks finished 3rd in the Penn Relays mile with a time of 4:46.73 which converts to a 4:45.07 1600m and that is a PA#2 and US#4. Kileigh Kane would finish 5th in the same race running 4:51.05 which converts to a 4:49.36 1600m. That’s a PA#4 and US#15.

Gwyneth Young and Kate Dickow had outstanding 3000m races at the Penn Relays. Young placed 5th with a 9:39.85. Dickow placed 7th with a 9:41.91. The top 3200m time in PA so far this year is 10:29. It’s very likely that Young and Dickow would be PA#1 and PA#2 for 3200m had they continued to race for another 200m.

Jumps/Pole Vault

Boys

Performer of the week – Lance Hamilton (State College)

Lance Hamilton placed 6th at the Penn Relays in the Triple Jump with a leap of 48-09.5. He already has the PA#1 performance of 49-00.

Honorable Mention – Stan Hamilton (State College) and Luke Knipe (State College)

Stan Hamilton placed 8th at the Penn Relays in the Triple Jump. Stan’s jump of 48-00.75 is a PA#3 jump.

Luke Knipe placed 2nd at the Penn Relays in the Pole Vault in a PA#2 15-1.

All three State College performers highlighted here are committed to Penn State University.

Girls

Performer of the week – Sydney Horn (Manheim Township)

Sydney Horn is making a habit out of clearing 13-feet. She did it again at the Penn Relays where she finished runner-up with a clearance of 13-1.75. She is currently ranked 15th in the US with her 13-3 personal best from earlier this season.

Throws

Boys

Performer of the week – Brandon George (Berks Catholic)

Brandon George set PRs in both the Shot and Discus this week. At a dual meet against Wyomissing he tossed the shot 54-7 (PA#9). At the Penn Relays he threw the discus a distance of 175-11 (PA#2). George is committed to the University of Pittsburgh for football.

Girls

Performer of the week – Skylar Ciccolini (Mifflin County)

Skylar Ciccolini won the Penn Relays Javelin with a US #2 throw all time of 184-02. The University of Missouri commit is ranked US#1 by nearly 16-feet!

Honorable Mention – Kristen Herr (Lampeter-Strasburg)

Kristen Herr had a great Penn Relays Javelin toss as well. She threw the Jav a personal best 157-05. She is currently ranked US#3! Herr has committed to the College of William and Mary.
