Boys

The AA boys individual race proved to be the most competitive up front of all races today. Three athletes broke the 16-minute barrier on the Big Spring course. Ben Kuhn (Sr, Wyomissing) has been one of the area’s (and state’s) top runners and he capped off his senior season with a district title. He ran 15:46 to earn the win. Greencastle-Antrim sophomore Weber Long showed nice closing speed and finished 2nd with a 15:49. Sophomore Cole Adams of York Suburban placed 3rd running 15:54. Long and Adams should provide some awesome racing for a couple of more years. District III is losing the Marlee Starliper and Taryn Parks match-ups, but these two might be taking the baton from them moving forward.

York Suburban was dominant in winning the AA Team title with 61 points. The Trojans placed 4 in the top 17. 3 of York Suburban’s top 4 are sophomores. Kennard-Dale will continue their fantastic season at states as they finished 2nd with 125 points. Upstart Susquehannock earned the final team spot finishing 3rd with 152 points. Kennard-Dale and Susquehannock each return their top 5 next season. These three squads may be firmly positioned at the top of AA for a few more years.

Girls

Marlee Starliper and Taryn Parks provided District III with another fantastic race today. They would run the fastest times of the day en route to their 1-2 finish. Starliper, the Northern senior and recent NC State commit, claimed victory in 17:21. Parks (sr, Greencastle-Antrim) would cross in 17:40. Peyton Ellis, a freshman from Boiling Springs, finished 3rd in a time of 18:56 (1 min faster than 4th place). Ellis will be one to watch over the next few years.

The Northern girl’s proved they are state title contenders. The team placed 4 runners in the top 10 and their #5 finished 25th overall. They won the team title with only 44 points. One of the first surprises of the day came from the Boiling Spring Bubblers who took 2nd with 110 points. Donegal finished 3rd to claim the final state qualifying spot with 129 points.
