What a fantastic day at the 2020 LL League Championship. Due to the pandemic, the league meet was spilt over two days this year with the boys racing yesterday and the girls taking center stage today. The team race did not disappoint. The top 2 teams were separated by 1 point. The 3rd and 4th place teams were separated by only 1 point. The top 4 teams ran great and at the end of the day it was the Warwick Warriors who took home the team title. They defeated the LL League Section 1 champions, JP McCaskey, 62-63! McCaskey put 4 girls in the top 11, Warwick’s top 5 all earned league medals by placing in the top 25.

Here was the scoring breakout for the top 4 teams:

It’s a shame all 4 can’t advance to Districts, but the LL will be well-represented by Warwick and JP McCaskey! As a reminder, only the top 2 finishing teams in class AAA and class AA advance to the District Championships.

The individual race featured 4 seniors and a freshman. Alyssa Fedorshak showed strength on the hills and began pulling away over the last 1k. The senior crossed the line first, running 19:29. She held off a fast-charging Anna Martin (sr, Warwick) who closed really well over the last half-mile to finish 2nd in 19:32. The leagues top freshman during the regular season was Manheim Township’s Ava Shirk and she proved her toughness again today to finish 3rd in 19:35. Finishing 4th and 5th were senior’s Gwyneth Young (Cedar Crest) and Arielle Breuninger (JP McCaskey) running 19:49 and 19:54, respectively.

The next 3 finishers were all freshman with Ella Hartel (Warwick), Ella Wolfe (Hempfield), and Isabella Shertzer finishing 6th-7th-8th. McCaskey’s 3rd top 10 finisher was 9th place performer, Milana Breuninger (so). Closing out the top 10 was Elizabethtown senior Madeline Quinn.

Lampeter-Strasburg and Lancaster Catholic are the two class AA teams that will advance to district’s. The top finishing Section 2 athlete of the day was Donegal’s Myra Naqvi (sr) who placed 20th. The top class AA finisher was Jessica Ferrara (fr, Octorara) in 39th and the top class A runner was Braetan Peters (jr, Annville-Cleona) in 24th.
