The 2024 Fall athletics season kicks off the new 2 year cycle for high school classifications in the state of Pennsylvania. Every 2 years the PIAA assesses male and female enrollment by school district to adjust classifications across all sports based on size. Here are the changes that will impact the 2024/2025 XC seasons in District 3:
Girls
Columbia from A to AA
Kutztown from A to AA
Susquenita from A to AA
Tulpehocken from A to AA
Upper Dauphin from A to AA
Donegal from AA to AAA
Lampeter Strasburg from AA to AAA
Manheim Central from AA to AAA
West York from AA to AAA
York Suburban from AA to AAA
Boys
Lancaster Catholic from AA to A (the Crusaders are the only program in District 3 that dropped down a class from the 2022/2023 period)
Greenwood (class A) is no longer listed as having a boy’s program
Annville-Cleona from A to AA
Tulpehocken from A to AA
Upper Dauphin from A to AA
Lampeter Strasburg from AA to AAA
West York from AA to AAA
The changes noted above will change the number of team and individual qualifiers for the Class AAA girls field – This year, 5 teams and 25 individuals not on one of the qualifying teams will advance to the PIAA State Championships. The previous 2 seasons saw Class AAA girls receive 4 team and 20 individual qualifying spots to states.

Class A Boys and Girls – the top 2 teams and the top 10 individuals not on one of the 2 qualifying teams.
Class AA Boys and Girls – the top 3 teams and the top 15 individuals not on one of the 3 qualifying teams.
Class AAA Boys and Girls – the top 5 teams and the top 25 individuals not on one of the 5 qualifying teams.
