LL League Track and Field Championship – Day 1 (w/videos)

It was cold and windy but that didn’t keep the stars from producing some outstanding results on day 1 of the 2025 LL League Track and Field Championships.

Girls

Ella Petrosky (fr, JP McCaskey) and Kendall Cooper (sr, Annville-Cleona) cruised through to finals. Olianna Oravitz (sr, Solanco) also looked great in her prelim. Could the meet record time go down tomorrow (11.8 – Brooke Gilliford, Manheim Township; Leah Graybill, Warwick – 11.96)? Petrosky was the top overall qualifier posting a time of 12.11. McCaskey, Solanco, and Conestoga Valley each had 2 individuals qualify for finals.

Nick Keller (sr, Ephrata) did not run the 100m often this outdoor season. That said, he posted the fastest preliminary time running 10.75. Logan Richard (sr, Warwick), the events top seed, made his 10.79 look easy. Landon Weaber (jr, Cedar Crest) posted a season’s best time of 10.88 to win heat 1.

Manheim Central’s Kylie Mattiace (jr) looked great in her preliminary heat. Of interest, Mattiace and McCaskey’s Natalie Carlisle (fr) were the only girls qualifying for finals who ran season best times. Linda and Hana Hussein qualified into finals as the 2nd and 3rd overall performers.

The top 4 seeds entering the day all ran like the top 4 seeds. Caleb Fuge (sr, Elizabethtown) and Ryder Newlin (jr, Ephrata) posted the fastest times of the day in a great heat 1 battle. Both improved upon their season best times and will enter tomorrow as the top 2 qualifiers. Emery Plaza (sr, JP McCaskey) and Vincent Thaler (jr, Octorara) both won their heats with ease. This should be a fantastic final tomorrow!

200m prelims

Girls

League and Championship Meet record holder Kaddel Howard of Cedar Crest opted out of the 200m. She and Ella Petrosky had both run 24.44 on the season to share the League’s top time. Petrosky looks ready to eclipse that mark in tomorrow’s final. She posted a 24.49 to take her heat victory. Kendall Cooper ran her 2nd great race of the day. She lowered her season’s best time in the 200m to 24.95.

5 of the 8 finalists ran season’s best time in qualifying. LL League all-time 200m record holder Nick Keller ran the day’s fastest time. He’ll have a busy schedule tomorrow running in both the 100m an 200m dash finals. He is also the favorite in the 400m. He’ll likely also run on Ephrata’s 4x400m relay to end the day. Logan Richard dipped under the 22-second mark for the first time to qualify 2nd.

3200m finals

Girls

Olivia Magana (sr Lampeter Strasburg) ran a really smart race and gradually began separating from runner-up Elena Barrall (sr, Manheim Township) over the final 4 laps of the race. She posted a slight negative split of 5:25/5:23. Both girls ran 2025 outdoor season best times. Mackenzie Stellmach placed 6th overall and in doing so lowered her District 3 AA leading time to 11:14.69.

Adam Kingston (sr, Manheim Township) took down the first meet record of the weekend when he broke Nathan Henderson’s 2017 3200m record. His time of 8:58.04 was 5 seconds faster than the JP McCaskey great. The time also broke his own Manheim Township record and improved upon his LL League all-time #2 ranking. Township went 1-2 in the event as Cole Stevens (sr) placed 2nd running a new PR of 9:09.29. 23 guys broke the 10-minute barrier!

Boys High Jump

The weather was not great for field events today. That said, the athletes still performed well and posted some strong marks. Ethan Kloppman (jr, Penn Manor) is developing into one of the state’s best high jumpers. He recently cleared 6-8 and took home the win today with a 6-6 clearance. Juniors took home the top 4 finishes and there was only 1 senior in the top 8.

Wright Young (jr, Ephrata) entered the day with the leagues best mark, a 22-11.25 leap from the Shippensburg University. He took home the gold reaching out to nearly 22-feet.

The guys were throwing into the wind today and still managed to put up some strong marks. Max Riccomini (sr, JP McCaskey) took home the win with a toss of 189-6! Mason Prokay (jr, Octorara) was also over 180-feet and placed 2nd.

Makenna Haas (sr, ELCO) was pushed by Elizabethtown’s Jebbeh Ngafu (jr), but pulled out the win by 1.5 inches. They both leaped over 37-feet.

How impressive were the top 3 today considering the weather? These ladies may be the top 3 discus throwers in the state. Sophia Rivera (jr, Ephrata) is really coming into her own this season. She kicks off her post-season with a big win over last year’s state champions in AA (Margaret Bila) and AAA (Genesis Castro).
