PIAA District III “A” Boys and Girls Cross Country Preview
Boys
In Boys A, the top 2 teams at districts and the top 10 individual runners not on a qualifying team will earn tickets to the state championship meet.
A void is left at the top of the individual rankings with the graduation of Upper Dauphin’s Brenden Miller, now running for Saint Francis University. It appears to be a wide open race as the next 10 finishers from last year’s district meet are back in 2018.
Kutztown and York Catholic earned last year’s state bids. Kutztown is in decent position to earn another trip to Hershey as they return their top 3 runners from last year’s championship team. Depth may be the only thing holding Kutztown back in 2018. Fairfield appears ready to challenge for the team title in 2018. They return all 7 runners from last year’s 4th place team, including the top individual district returner in junior John Whitcomb.
Preseason top 2: Fairfield, Kutztown
Girls
The top 2 teams at districts and top 10 individual runners not on a qualifying team will earn tickets to the state championship meet.
Camp Hill, York Catholic, Kutztown, and Susquenita battled to a close 1-2-3-4 finish last year. Only 22 points separated 1st through 4th place in the team race. Camp Hill returns their top 3 from 2017’s district championship and 4 of their top 7. They are in great position to repeat as District Champions. The #2 team qualifying spot remains wide open. Quality depth will likely determine who gets the 2nd state qualifying mark. Look for Annville-Cleona to move up from last year’s 7th place team finish. They return 5 of their top 6 runners in 2018.
Preseason top 2: Camp Hill, Annville-Cleona
