Week 5 – LL League XC Results (10/1/19)

Conestoga Valley and Hempfield @ Cedar Crest

Senior night at Cedar Crest:

Boys:

This was the boys meet of the day in LL League Section 1 action. Both Cedar Crest and Hempfield entered the day undefeated in section competition. Tommy Bildheiser led the way for the Falcons, claiming another section 1 victory. He remains undefeated in league meets this season. The Black Knights would place 4 runners ahead of Cedar Crest’s #3 performer though and that was enough to seal the victory for Hempfield 28-29. The win should secure the Section 1 title for Hempfield. Congratulations!

Girls:

Same as it was in the boys race, both Cedar Crest and Hempfield came into today undefeated in section competition. Gwyneth Young wins the individual race today to stay undefeated in league meets this season. She crossed the line in 19:43. This sets up a big showdown between the two top runners in the league next week as Young will face off against Elizabethtown’s Katie Locker. Locker is also undefeated in league competition this season as she picked up the victory today at Manheim Township. Onto the team race…While Cedar Crest goes 1-2 with Young and Shayla Bonzelet, Hempfield’s tremendous pack running proved to be too much for the Falcons to overcome. Hempfield runners place 3-4-5-6-7 and claims the victory 25-32. The Black Knights face Elizabethtown next week. The Bears only loss comes at the hands of Cedar Crest. If Hempfield comes out on top they will claim the section 1 title.

Ephrata and Warwick @ Lebanon

Senior Day at Lebanon today:

Boys:

Warwick picks up two wins today, including a close one over Lebanon, 25-31. Jeremy Bell continues his strong run in LL League action winning today’s race over Lebanon’s Isaac Showers. Both Bell and Showers are coming off strong performances from the Carlisle Invitational this past weekend.

Girls:

The Ephrata girls pick up two victories today in Lebanon. Using their depth, they placed 2-3-4-5 individually to secure the wins. Warwick’s Anna Martin battled it out with Ephrata’s Mary Campbell and came away with the individual victory by 8-seconds, running 20:52.

Columbia and ELCO @ Octorara

Boys:

ELCO’s Mitchell Gray has won all but one section 2 race this season and today he picked up two more victories, taking the win in 17:14 over the athletes from Octorara and Columbia. ELCO goes 2-0 on the day to run their record to 6-3.

Girls:

Neither Columbia nor Octorara fielded full teams, so ELCO picks up the wins today. Rebecca Cassidy (Octorara) takes the individual race running 21:13. She is firmly in position to earn first team section 2 all-star honors this season.

Donegal and Northern Lebanon @ Manheim Central

Boys:

This was one of the two big Section 2 match-ups today in the LL League. Manheim Central and Donegal both entered today with a 6-1 record. The Barons would take the win today in a close one, 27-29. Gage Krall (N. Lebanon) continued his winning streak and remains undefeated in league competition. He wins today in another sub-17 minute effort running 16:55.

Girls:

Donegal entered today undefeated, but figured to face one of their better tests in Section 2 against Manheim Central. Donegal once again showed that they are one of the top teams in D3AA taking the win over the Barons 21-42. The Indians Myra Naqvi earned the individual victory running 20:49. 7 of the top 10 runners today were Donegal athletes.
