I chose carefully when wording the title of this article. I’ve always been one to call the winter track and field season “Indoor” Track as opposed to “Winter” Track. Meets were always conducted indoors so it made the most sense to me. That changes this year as “Outdoor Winter” Track events are already being planned. Wilson High School (West Lawn, PA) is planning for a limited event track and field meet on December 13th. High Jump and Shot Put events will take place indoors with an 800m and DMR event taking place outdoors. You can read more about their plans here. I expect to see more of these types of events to pop up over the winter months as many, if not all local colleges do not plan to hold indoor high school events this year.
If you are looking for larger indoor events, you have to currently look outside of the state and at sites not associated with schools/colleges. Three of those locations closest to us are the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center in New York City; Ocean Breeze Indoor Facility in Staten Island, NY; and the brand new Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
The New Balance Armory T/F Center schedule of events can be found here. Some meets are accepting registrations now, including the “Armory Trials 5” meet scheduled for December 12th.
