The top 2 teams and top 10 individuals not on one of those 2 teams will advance to the PIAA State Championships in Hershey. There have been 4 teams seemingly in contention for those 2 team spots all season. Trinity looks to be the team to beat. In a field of ~70 athletes, Trinity could place their top 5 inside the top 15. York Catholic and Tulpehocken look to be the next 2 teams, but in what order? Our projections over the past few weeks have shown an almost even ranking between the two, and as you will see below, that hasn’t changed. You might as well consider it a virtual tie. While Kutztown can’t be ruled out, they appear to have the biggest hill to climb (pun intended) come Saturday.
Here is how we project the team race to play out:
Note: Some of the teams with no team score (NTS) listed may have a scoring team on Saturday, I just lack adequate information on them to make a call. I do not anticipate any of them to contend for the two state qualifying spots.
Individually, Jasper Burd (sr, Trinity) and Moseley Driscoll (sr, York Catholic) look to be the front runners. Burd has been the top guy in class A all year, running 16:29 to place 8th at the Mid-Penn Conference Championships. He was runner-up at the Gettysburg Invitational when he ran 16:19. Driscoll missed a couple of meets earlier in the year, but has been showing nice progression since returning. He most recently placed 8th at the YAIAA Championships clocking a time of 16:56.
