The Class A girls will get things started at the PIAA District 3 XC Championships. What’s at stake? The top 2 finishing teams and top 10 individuals not on one of those 2 teams will advance to the state championships next Saturday in Hershey.
Annville-Cleona enters Saturday morning as the favorite to bring home the district title. They have 2 low-sticks in Braetan Peters (sr) and Cassi Clemson (jr) and have built quality depth throughout the roster over the past 2 seasons. Camp Hill enters as our 2nd projected state qualifying team, although we wouldn’t yet rule out York Catholic or Newport.
Here is a look at our latest projection on how we think the team race unfolds:
Individually, look for a 3 person battle for the district championship. Braetan Peters (sr, Annville-Cleona) is the defending champion. She was leading the LL League Championships until a wrong turn at the half-way point set her back about 15-seconds. She would end up finishing 11th overall. That said, she looked strong throughout the race and may be the one to beat on Saturday. Tulpehocken freshman Abby Gehris is having a fantastic rookie campaign. She placed 9th overall at BCIAAs and was 3rd earlier in the season (on the Big Spring course) at Ben Bloser in the small school division. Fairfield’s Honey Strosnider (sr) placed one spot ahead of Gehris at Ben Bloser and most recently finished 16th at YAIAAs.
Here is a look at our next 10 ranked runners (in alphabetical order) that we project to contend for one of the 10 district medals:
