Spotlight 2022 – Alexa Wenger, Warwick

Alexa Wenger

I currently attend Warwick High School and this fall I will be headed to Liberty University in Virginia. I plan to major in Computer Science with a minor in Business while running on the track team as a 400/800m runner.

My favorite subjects are Calculus and Computer Science and my favorite teachers have been the teachers I have had for those classes: Mr. Minnich, Mr. Neuman, and Mr. Wile. I like to call them “The Trifecta” and the three of them have really shaped who I am as a student and helped me realize my career goals.

My favorite books are the Mysterious Benedict Society series and my favorite movie is Inception.

My favorite thing to do when I’m not running is baking. I actually work in a bakery, and I love making all sorts of deserts (but eating all of the stuff I make is probably not good for my training;))

Something surprising about me is that I was recruited as a sprinter for college. I have always run cross country in the fall and the distance events in the spring, but recently my coaches and I have realized I’m actually a much better sprinter than a distance runner. I like to joke that I still have no idea how to use blocks, but I’m going to be a D1 “sprinter” this fall.

My favorite shoe brand is Brooks, specifically the Brooks Bedlam. It’s like the best shoe ever invented.

My favorite HS memory would have to be the PIAA State track meet last year. I went with the 4×800 and we were seeded 10th but we ended up getting 4th and medaling. The girls on my relay were my best friends and we had so much fun together. The whole weekend was incredible and it was the perfect way to end my junior year.

My best advice to younger runners is to go all in. That means trusting your coaches 100%, making your teammates your best friends, and working hard every single day at practice. When you go all in, you will get the most out of your training, develop as a runner, and find so much joy in the journey.
