Is there a better way to end the regular season than with a head-to-head battle for the LL League Section 1 title? I don’t think so. Both boys and girls squads from Cedar Crest and JP McCaskey enter today’s showdown undefeated. The meet kicks off at 4pm.

Boys Preview
The Cedar Crest boys are projected to win this one based on season best performances. There will be several closely matched events that could swing the scoring in either direction, most notably in the jumps where each event is a toss-up. The sprints and relays should also be close and it will be interesting to see how each coach manages their line-ups. The 4x100m and 4x400m relays could be special. In the end, Cedar Crest’s depth earns them the edge in our pre-meet prediction.

Girls Preview
Event management is a key question in this one. Cedar Crest figures to score a lot of 1st places between freshmen sensations Kaddel Howard (sprints) and Eliana Schneider (field and relays). Howard will be able to neutralize the high-powered sprint squad from McCaskey if she runs in all 3 individual sprint events and Schneider should score well in the Javelin and High Jump. The 200m could be special if both Howard and McCaskey’s Kamyah Wright compete. They are currently ranked #1 and #3 in District 3. With McCaskey being so dominant in the relays will Cedar Crest contest them or focus on individual event scoring? McCaskey is ranked #1 in District 3 in all three relays with Cedar Crest being ranked #2 in the 4×800 and #4 in the 4×400. McCaskey should also score very well in the mid-distance/distance events. They currently own 3 of the top 8 times in District 3 over 800m.
If Cedar Crest is to win this one they will need to outperform McCaskey in the following “toss-up” events (too close to call): 100mH, 300mH, Triple Jump, and Pole Vault while also getting some big-time performances from their distance crew. Cedar Crest will challenge McCaskey in nearly every event, but the Tornadoes have too many paths to victory and are our pick to bring home another Section 1 crown.
Note: JP McCaskey is ranked #1 in our CPAR District 3 Class AAA Rankings while Cedar Crest is ranked #2!
