Girls:
The first of four groupings takes off at 9a with the district champions from District 1-6. Representing Central PA from District 3 is York Catholic and from District 6 is Penns Valley.
The Penns Valley girls, led by Kelsey Hull (sr) and Anna Stitzer (jr) could challenge for the team title. In their heat, York Catholic may give them their biggest challenge. Mohawk and Wilmington, in section 2, appear to be the other two teams with a title shot.
Individually, Portage Area’s Lauren Shaffer (jr) may be Central PA’s top runner in this race. She’s improved her 5k performances each season and looks ready to contend for the Class A individual title this year.
Bolded are athletes with top 40 5k times run in the state (Class A) this season. They may be best positioned to earn one of the state medals (top 25).

Boys:
Penns Valley entered the season as the team favorite as well as having the top 2 individual favorites for the state title. Unfortunately, it’s been reported that Brendan Colwell (sr) will miss the state meet with an injury. Colton Sands (sr) has dealt with his own injuries throughout the season, but returned for the district meet to win in a sub-16 minute time. He will look to bring home another state title Saturday morning.
The loss of Colwell opens the door to Jenkintown and Winchester Thurston to take the team title from Penns Valley. Expect a close race! York Catholic could battle for a top 3 spot with a strong day.
