Adidas Indoor Nationals – Viewer’s Guide and Meet Preview (Feb 26-28th)

Adidas has released the heat sheets for this weekend’s indoor national championship meet. The meet will take place February 26-28 at the Virginia Beach Complex.

Here is a viewer’s guide for this weekend’s meet for all athletes competing out of PIAA District 3 and District 6. While position and/or lanes may be changed day of event (based on any scratches), it is unlikely that anyone will shift to a different heat.

Friday, February 26:

Session 6 – 10:35a (Event 105 – Boys 400m Heats 8-13)

Noah Sanders, sr Gettysburg – Heat 10, Lane 4

Notes – Sanders finished 11th at the PA Indoor state meet last March. He owns a PR from the 2019 Outdoor season of 49.13.

Session 9 – 12:00p (Event 310 – Girls Rising Stars 1-mile)

Madelyn Holbrook, 8th Exeter Twp – Heat 1, position 7

Notes – Holbrook won the 2020 Berks County Junior High XC Championship.

Session 10 – 12:25p (Event 110 – Girls 1-mile Heats 1-2)

Milana Breuninger, so JP McCaskey – Heat 2, position 5

Notes – Milana is coming off an 800m PR at Youngstown State last weekend, running 2:24. She’s been shedding time nicely this winter.

Session 11 – 12:40p (Event 110 – Girls 1-mile Heats 3-5)

Allie Engle, jr Northern – Heat 3, position 6

Arielle Breuninger, sr JP McCaskey – Heat 5, position 13

Notes – Arielle Breuninger has had a strong senior year so far. She placed 15th in the state indoors as a junior for the mile run. Arielle lowered her mile PR this season when she ran 5:10.42 at the 757 Showdown the end of January. She is committed to the University of Pennsylvania. Engle has a mile run PR of 5:22 from last indoor season. She ran 5:28 for 1600m at the VA Showcase a month and a half ago. A new PR seems very possible.

Session 12 – 1:00p (Event 309 – Boys Rising Stars 1-mile

Griffen Ridler, 8th Northeastern – Heat 2, position 10

Session 13 – 1:20p (Event 109 – Boys 1-mile Heats 1-2)

Jahmar Gonzalez-Allie, so Annville-Cleona – Heat 1, position 1

Ryan French, jr Hempfield – Heat 1, position 9

Dylan Forrester, sr Wyomissing – Heat 2, position 7

Notes: Gonzalez-Allie was one of the top junior high performers in 2019. He ran 2:12 for 800m and 4:33 for 1500m as an 8th grader in 2019. French is coming off his best XC season this past fall and will look to lower his track PRs this weekend. Forrester is coming off of an 800m PR last weekend at Youngstown State when he ran 2:08. He is committed to Longwood University.

Session 14 – 1:30p (Event 110 – Boys 1-mile Heats 3-5)

Aidan Hodge, so Hempfield – Heat 5, position 3

Notes: Hodge finished 21st in the state (AAA) during the XC season, proving him to be one of the top sophomores in Pennsylvania. He ran a mile PR of 4:33.19 at the 757 Showdown on Jan 30.

Session 15 – 1:55p (Event 110 – Boys 1-mile Heats 6-7)

Tyler Stevens, jr Manheim Township – Heat 6, position 12

Alex Holbrook, jr Exeter Township – Heat 6, position 16

Notes: Stevens placed 20th at the PIAA AAA XC championships this fall. He lowered his mile PR to 4:31.58 at the 757 Showdown. Holbrook had a strong return to racing this past fall, placing 3rd in Berks County during the XC season. His progress has continued into the indoor season as he set a new mile run PR of 4:32.51 at the East Coast Showdown on Feb 5th.

Session 25 – 6:30p (Event 14 – Girl’s 5k championship

Margaret Carroll, sr Northeastern – Heat 1

Notes: Finished 3rd at the PIAA AAA XC championships and then went on to win the XC Town USAMeet of Champions. She ran 4:59.72 at Youngstown State on Feb 13th. She has an outdoor 5k PR of 16:50.56. She is committed to run for Villanova University next year.

Saturday, February 27:

Session 32 – 9:00a (Event 115 – Boys 60mH (top 16 to finals)

Desmond Barnes, sr Red Lion – Heat 1, Lane 1

Notes: Barnes has a 60mH PR of 9.59 from the 2020 season.

Session 37 – 10:45a (Event 139 – Boys Shot Put)

Brady Mider, fr Berks Catholic – Flight 1

Notes: Mider will be one to watch for years to come. Just a freshman, he has already thrown the HS shot 46-01.5.

Session 38 – 11:10a (Event 134 – Girls Pole Vault)

Kaitlyn Thorne, jr Central York – Flight 2

Annika Hummel, sr Mechanicsburg – Flight 2

Notes: Hummel has cleared a new PR of 11-06 this indoor season while Thorne has cleared 11-00. Thorne has a PR of 11-06. They’ll be in the same flight this weekend.

Session 40 – 11:45a (Event 112 – Girls 2-mile)

Marissa Pritchett, jr Northeastern – Heat 1, position 8

Braetan Peters, jr Annville-Cleona – Heat 1, position 12

Arielle Breuninger, sr JP McCaskey – Heat 3, position 7

Notes: Pritchett and Peters are two of the top junior instance runners in Central PA and will be competing in the same heat on Saturday. Pritchett ran 11:29.46 3200m at Youngstown State 2 weeks ago. Breuninger will be looking to dip below her 2-mile PR of 11:24.14 that she ran at the 757 Invite on Jan 31st.

Session 41- 12:30p (Event 111 – Boys 2-mile Heats 1-3)

Carter Paul, so Mechanicsburg – Heat 2, position 8

Cole Perry, jr Northeastern – Heat 2, position 9

Stephen Schousen, sr JP McCaskey – Heat 3, position 1

Ryan French, so Hempfield – Heat 3, position 10

Notes: Schousen placed 9th and Perry finished 15th at the PIAA AAA state XC Championships this past November. Perry has set new 1600m (4:38.12) and 3200m (9:58.17) PRs this indoor season. This will be Schousen’s opener. His 3200m comes from his sophomore season when he ran 9:53. Schousen has committed to Bucknell University. This will be Carter Paul’s 2021 debut.

Session 42 – 1:15p (Event 111 – Boys 2-mile Heats 4-5)

Weber Long, jr Greencastle-Antrim – Heat 5, position 2

Alex Holbrook, jr Exeter Township – Heat 5, position 10

Tyler Stevens, jr Manheim Township – Heat 5, position 12

Aidan Hodge, so Hempfield – Heat 5, position 15

Notes: 4 of the 16 runners in the “fast” heat of the boys open 2-mile run come from PIAA District 3. All 4 runners have had strong winter seasons. Weber Long has posted the fastest 2-mile run to date, running 9:35.45 at the East Coast Invitational on Feb 6th. At that same event. Holbrook lowered his 2-mile PR to 9:44.07. Long placed 3rd at the PIAA AA State meet in November. Hodge has a PR of 9:44.65 for 3200m (VA Showcase – Jan 17). Stevens has an indoor PR of 9:50.03 for 2-miles from the 757 Showdown (Jan 31).

Session 44 – 2:55p (Event 115 – Boys 60mH (finals – top 16 from morning session)

Session 45 – 3:15p (Event 133 – Boys Pole Vault AND Event 135 – Boys Long Jump

Brody Myers, sr Camp Hill – Flight 1 – Pole Vault

Tyler Rossi, jr Trinity – Flight 2 – Long Jump

Notes: Myers should be looking to crack the 15-0 barrier this weekend. He cleared 14-08 at the Vault WorX Last Chance Meet and again at the ESU Jumps Meet most recently on 2/20. Rossi jumped 20-00.5 back on Jan 16th and owns a PR of 21-04 from the 2019 outdoor season.

Session 50 – 6:20p (Boys Championship 4x800m)

Twin Valley

Notes: The boys from Twin Valley seem primed for a strong performance this upcoming weekend. Noah Taylor (sr) and Anthony Engle (so) both broke the 2-min barrier at Wilson last weekend with Iain Taylor close behind. Could they break the 8-minute?

Sunday, February 28:

Session 54 – 10:40a (Event 108 – Girls 800m Heats 4-5)

Milana Breuninger, so JP McCaskey – Heat 4, position 10

Notes: PR’d last weekend at Youngstown State. She’ll be looking for a sub 2:24 on Sunday.

Session 56 – 11:00a (Event 107 – Boys 800m Heats 1-4)

Ben Blough, so JP McCaskey – Heat 3, position 5

Carter Paul, so Mechanicsburg – Heat 3, position 10

Notes: Blough and Paul are 2 underclassmen to keep an eye on. Both saw nice improvements in their XC performances this past fall.

Session 57 – 11:20a (Event 107 – Boys 800m Heats 5-8)

Jahmar Gonzalez-Allie, so Annville-Cleona – Heat 6, position 8

Notes: see comments from “Session 13.”

Session 58 – 11:40 (Event 39 – Boys Shot Put Championship)

Dylan Lambrecht, sr Northern Lebanon – Flight 2

Notes: The Penn State commit launched a bomb at the VA Showcase back on Jan 16th, surpassing the 60-foot barrier with a toss that measured 60-03. He’s ranked PA #2 and US #9 in the event.

Session 59 – 11:50 (Event 209 – Boys Freshman 1-mile)

Colin Whitaker, fr Lampeter Strasburg – Heat 1, position 4

Notes: Whitaker won a state medal in AA this past fall as only a freshman. In 2020, as an 8th grader, he ran a 1500m indoors in 4:23.81.

Session 63 – 1:05p (Event 40 – Girls Shot Put Championship)

Annika Ermold, jr Governor Mifflin – Flight 1

Ericka Jackson, so Lower Dauphin – Flight 1

Ashlyn Giles, sr Schuylkill Valley – Flight 2

Notes: Ashlyn Giles is currently ranked PA #1 and US#1 in the shot. The University of Nebraska commit launched a 49-07 throw on Feb 6th. She’ll look to bring home a National Title to Central PA! Annika Ermold cracked the 40-foot mark for the first time on Feb 14th when she set a new PR of 40-09.5. Jackson is the 3rd area athlete to qualify into the Championship Section of the girl’s shot. This should be a fun group to track over the upcoming outdoor season.

Session 64 – 1:25p (Event 33 – Boys Pole Vault Championship)

Justin Rogers, jr Hershey – Flight 1

Notes: Rogers qualified into the Championship Section of the boy’s Pole Vault after clearing 15-0 back on Jan 9th. He has consistently been over 14-feet all indoor season. He has a PR of 15-6 from last outdoor season.
